The Albany Boardriders has been successful in their second Regional Association GSSTA funding of $5,000.00 to be utilised in their High Performance Surfing Program for their athletes to obtain strength and conditioning services, gym and pool access.
The Albany Boardriders have been long time members of Surfing WA and facilitate elite surfers from all over the Great Southern Region in their development many of whom participate in the Surfing WA High Performance Pathways.
The five month training program will prepare surfers for State and National Competitions.
Tom Dickson, Sport Development Manager, Surfing WA advised that the Albany Boardriders form a major part of the states clubs and high performance network and currently have a rapidly expanding talent base of junior surfers of which a large number compete at both state and national level with members embarking on a national title campaign with the Western Australian State Team.
Tom believes the depth and success of junior surfers from the Great Southern Region can largely be attributed to the high level of training and coaching provided by the club and its coaches.
Kate Minter, the Surfing WA preferred trainer, covers the strength and conditioning components of the program and Adrian Shepherd, Level 2 High Performance Surf Coach will provide coaching to approx. 16 surfers in the program.
